Open joint-stock company Aeroflot Russian Airlines was established in July 1992. The company's founder, the government of the Russian Federation, owns 51 per cent of stocks, 49 per cent is held by the company's employees and other legal entities.

In June 2000, the annual stockholders meeting changed the name of the company to Aeroflot Russian Airlines, which corresponds better to the status and profile of Russia's national airline company.

15,000 employees work for the company including about two thousand air specialists, more than five hundred of them are aircraft commanders.

Aeroflot has the largest in Eastern Europe flight control center (FCC). The entire process of flight control is automated in on-line operation mode; this enables to provide high safety of flights (99.95 per cent) and to meet the level of the most effective airline companies of the world.
